Case study: negligent cataract surgery
Wendy* suffered from cataracts and underwent corrective surgery to improve her sight.
Unfortunately an incorrectly powered lens was implanted following incorrect biometric calculations performed during a pre-operative assessment.
Our client subsequently developed blurred vision and dizziness. She was also very unsteady on her feet. She required further surgery on her right eye, to implant a lens with the same power as that in her left eye, and is now dependant on spectacles for distance vision.
Our expert Dr Ronnie Tan took on the case and the NHSLA admitted both breach of duty and causation. Wendy was awarded £15,000 compensation.
